Have you ever heard of/done this race?

First off, if you haven't already, don't forget to enter our BeeCause giveaway here!!!!

If you've picked up this month's Runner's World, then you might've read the article on the Dipsea race in Cali. While we were reading it, we were SO EXCITED to see that it just so happens that we will be in Califonia for our honeymoon at the exact time of this race (one week after the Rock n Roll San Diego). Now we REALLY want to get into this race. It'd be the PERFECT way to continue on with our running-themed weddin/honeymoon/life. =)

Have any of you guys ever heard anything about it, or run it in the past, or have any secrets on how a couple of East Coasters can get in?!

Here's the link to the Dipsea Race.

Also, we ran a GREAT 20 miles this morning on the trails. 15 miles with a friend, and the last 5 miles just us. We saw lots of horses, dogs (even a blind dog), and it was such a nice spring day. We are getting really excited for our Ultra in a couple weeks.

I read that article about Dipsea and it sounds like so much fun! I think you need to be REALLY creative and write an application letter that knocks their socks off...I don't know any one who has done the race but I'll keep my eyes open for you both. What a FUN honeymoon race :) !
Your 20 miler sounded like a gentle walk in the part for you both, how fun!

Haven't run the Dipsea, but it sounds fun and challenging. I can say the San Diego marathon is fun. Be sure to plan some running time in La Jolla.

Sounds like you had an awesome run. Maybe you can contact the Zombies from zombierunner.com about the race. I'm sure they'll have all the info you need.

Have not heard about the race, but if you need to be creative to get in (like Meg said), I can't imagine a better story than you guys have! Can't wait for your ultra! I was considering it, but with all the tri training and 5Ks, I could not fit it in!

Do you seriously want to run a race on your honeymoon? I'm sending over a psychiatrist right now to evaluate you two ;)

Since you have over one year, there is plenty of time to write a really creative plea letter. I have heard of people doing it, not any one personally, but it does get a lot of attention out here. I'm only a few miles away from there and it always seems so secretive. But since you'll be on your honeymoon and your cute story I bet you could be shoe-ins! IF you get in, I will TOTALLY come and cheer you guys one! Yayyy!

Hey Guys As a matter of fact I am from NB! Small world. Just checked out your blog. Good stuff. I think I saw correctly that you guys are running the Pineland! I am running the 50 miler as my second to last training run before the Western. Prob doing the barefoot on Saturday to boot! Should be a great time. The friends talking about me, all good stuff I hope:) I also have a fan page on facebook that has received tremendous support. Dipsea is a sick race, tough to get into and no joke. That is something that I look forward to doing. Fel free to contact me via email stephen.taylor5@comcast.net Have a great night fellow runners!

I've heard of that race yet know no one that's actually done it. Hope you get in, what a great way to spend "some" of your honeymoon :).

How I miss the trails. The miles are so much more enjoyable than 20 on the road!!

Awesome!

btw - not only do I have a 16 year old (camping pic on my post) but a son in the Marine's that was married last October. Hard for me to believe!!!! :)

Hi, I stumbled onto your blog and I thought I'd chime in. I run the Dipsea every year and know a bit about the ins and outs of it.

It is really, really tough to get into. However, if you (1) write about how it's your honeymoon, and (2) be prepared to pay a little (err, or a lot) extra, your chances of getting in should be ok. Just decide how much it's worth to you to run it and send that amount with your entry. I don't know what the minimum bid is to get in by overpaying, but I heard grumblings from people who paid over $150 this year and didn't get in. (The entry fee is $60)

Also, you're aware that California is a big state, right? San Diego is about 500 miles from where the race is held (near San Francisco).

That said, the Dipsea is an amazing race. I literally have dreams about this race, and in the months building up to it, I obsess over it. (to the point where I google "dipsea" to find blogs that mention it!) The scenic beauty, the quirky traditions, the rich history of the race... it all combines to make this a one-of-a-kind experience.

Hey Dipsea Runner, thanks for your comments! Not sure how to write back to you so i am responding here, not sure if you will ever see it tho...Sounds like a great race, you are lucky to get to run it every year. Our plan is to start in SD and travel up the west coast so Dipsea would be perfect, we know how hard it is to get in but it's worth a shot i guess, don't think we will be going back to Cali for a loooong time. Thanks again for your tips!
