Sorry, Mr. Yasso, But I Don't Believe You!

This morning I did my 10x800s. The weather was HOT, humid and muggy. I was sucking wind after the first one. I did a 1 mile warm up to the track, did my ten 800s and then 1 mils cool down back home. I always use my Garmin on this track bc the track has no markings and doesn't appear to be all that accurate as I've discovered on past runs (for the 800s I only run around about 1 3/4 times). Oh, and remember the last blog post where I said I rarely sweat?? Today my sneakers were squishy when I got home, that's how soaked in sweat I was. What a nasty, nasty morning.
My goal for each 800 was sub 3:25. I usually keep each one between 3:15-3:20 but with a 20 miler planned for tomorrow I decided to stick to 3:25. I do about 45 seconds to 1 minute recovery b/w each 800. I didn't know until last week that your recovery time is supposed to be however long it took you to run the 800 (i.e. 3:22 recovery). OOPS. This is how I've always done them so that's what I did today.
1. 3:22
2. 3:21
3. 3:23
4. 3:20
5. 3:20
6. 3:22
7. 3:24
8. 3:21
9. 3:23
10. 3:23
Average time for each 800 was 3:22, with my average pace being 6:44.
SO, If you think I'm going to run 3:22:00 at my upcoming marathon, think again!! lol. No freaking way. Thanks for your boost of confidence Mr. Yasso, but I don't believe you! Only time will tell!

I know, I know. I've had very similar experiences with Yasso's right before my marathons...but NEVER say NEVER, girl!!

Hot damn, speedy! :)

I am with you on the Yasso's. In theory, I could be building up to a 3:30 marathon. And...my current PR is 4:47. Haha!

I bet you could bust out a 3:22, though! No doubt! You're awesome!

nice SPEEDY 800s!!! The whole Yasso throery doesn't work for me either, but they are still fun and good for confidence!

I never, and I mean NEVER, run a marathon according to my Yasso times. I'd be in total heaven if so :). Still, they're great speedwork!! Have a great weekend!!! Good luck with the 20!

haha yassos are pretty funny - spot on for some people are SO FAR off for others. i would never plan a marathon time on them, but i think its a useful tool the other way around.

but i cant wait to see what you pull out in the next marathon :)

I love yasso 800's - although, I'm not sure how accurate they are either! Good work girlie!!

And congrats on both of you to your halves last week - nice work!!

I know what you're saying...but you never know! BTW--we are fairly similar pace on them. I hope you get your 3:22!

I feel the same about yasso's. I can run them super fast, like 3 min or so, and yes, no, i can't run a 3 h marathon. you, though, could run a 3:22, no problem. Don't put a limit on your performance at Baystate. They have 3:20 pacers, you know. You've had some speedy runs and have been doing lots of long runs...

Love the yasso workouts, but sorry to say, they haven't exactly worked as planned for me either, although @ St. George I was real close, but I attribute that to my other training, not so much the yasso's. (weight loss, hill work, unlimited yoga, 26.2 mile training run, etc. etc.)

I still enjoy doing them.

You however can prove Mr. Yasso correct. Go Girlie Go!
